The lap of luxury…

There is massive contrast between the rest of the trip and Namibia. This is really overland travel heaven, it has all the wild, remote, spectacular and difficult routes that are as good as Bolivia or Kyrgyzstan, with the bonus of better wildlife, yet the evening camping spots are astoundingly good.

We can camp at “lodges” where each camp site has its own individual toilet and shower block, a shelter with tables and chairs, water and power supply. Even the “bush” camps overlook watering holes or river beds and have rustic set ups like toilets with three sides only but views to die for. Even then we have our own “open to the sky” showers and toilets that work!

If we are at the lodges we can eat at the restaurant if we like, in the bush we cook ourselves, stocked up at the good supermarkets in the bigger towns. All a very far cry from scrawny chicken and rice and haggling in the markets of the villages on the way.

This is easily the best set up destination for overland travellers that I have yet encountered, in all my trips, quite a pleasant shock
