Nighttime in the jungle
As I write this the jungle around me is alive with noises, crickets, and all sorts of insects calling to each other, fireflies flit between the overhead canopy and the mighty Niger River slides past 20 m away and four or Five meters lower than our camp spot in flood.

The stars peek through the trees above and an occasional flicker of light from the fisherman in his canoe on the river is the only light, we have just pulled off the highway, covered ourselves with DEET and are camping for the evening by the river, my trusty Coleman petrol stove has made us dinner all the ingredients bar a tin of salmon sourced in the local market

Sitting outside for a while, just soaking up the noise of teeming life
